Westend win national FA grassroots football award

Here at Westend we love nothing more than witnessing children playing football with a smile on their face and having a great time with their friends. Since 1991 and still to this very day, our priority is to provide opportunities for every child to develop a love and passion for football in a safe, encouraging, caring and family friendly environment.

Under the guidance and support of a fantastic management team we encourage every child to reach their full potential. Our dedicated volunteer’s time, energy, commitment and positive attitude serve as an inspiration to all and remain testament to the values, ethos, principles and foundations the club was first founded on thirty years ago.

We’re fiercely proud of our club.

‘We are caring, passionate, dedicated and committed…we are Westend’

We look forward to welcoming you soon.

The Westend Way

Girls and boys

Irrespective of previous playing experience all children are welcomed at Westend to enjoy playing with their peers, developing at their own pace to maximize their enjoyment and love of playing football. At Westend children’s learning in these early, but crucial ages, is all about fun, football and friendship all taught in a positive, lively, yet pressure-free environment.

Our approach is more than just providing a football experience, we’re passionate about the essential growth of well-rounded children.

At U11-U16 the football pathway introduces players of all abilities into a league programme playing competitive 9v9 and 11v11 matches v against other football clubs – experiencing playing at home and travelling away. We run three Westend Teams at each age group – Lions, Tigers and Pumas, who compete in league/cup matches in the Huddersfield Junior Football League. Additionally, we aim to play in summer tournaments and festivals.

Under the guidance of our FA Level 1 & 2 Management Team all player’s train for 1hour a week and matches are scheduled on Sunday (please see fixtures and results)

Key football development areas:

Technical – Tactical – Psychological – Learning the game – Understanding formations – Roles within a Team

Wider player development:

Attitude – Resilience – Work ethic – Overall Wellbeing –  Commitment – Responsibility – Togetherness

The most essential part of a players development; as they experience both highs and lows through competing, is patience. Yes, we all love the feeling of winning, but often when a player experiences losing they learn more. Enabling, recognising, supporting and dealing with these emotions/situations allows our players to become more resilient, focused, determined and through varied experiences grow to become not just better players, but essentially as people too.

At U11-U16, players will experience physical growth resulting in both physiological and psychological changes. These can ultimately impact on a players performance either in training and matches leading to an impact on self confidence. At Westend, we’re aware this is a crucial stage in a young players journey and the very reason why we run 3 Teams at every age – allowing for ups and downs in player development.

This also provides opportunities for all players, irrespective of ability, to play matches with their team mates.
